THE PRESS


 20th century:

Journalism aimed at the working class and started emphasizing in sensational topics. Socialist labor newspaper started proliferated as the Daily Herald.
Importance of the press peak during the World War I.

21st century:
The British press, such as The Sun, Mirror, Daily Star, is repeatedly accused of being untrustworthy and irresponsible; of poisoning political debate and undermining the democratic process; of inciting hostility against immigrants and ethnic minorities; and of coarsening public life by promoting a sleazy and intrusive celebrity culture.



TELEVISION


Television in the United Kingdom started in 1936 as a public service which was free of advertising. 
Digital terrestrial:
Television launched in 1998 as a subscription service named ONdigital. Since October 2002, the primary broadcaster is Freeview, which is free of charge to view.
Cable television:
There were many regional companies when cable television services were developed in the late 1980s and 1990s. Today they have amalgamated to become Virgin Media, which is available to 55% of households. 
RADIO
Radio in the United Kingdom is dominated by the BBC, which operates radio stations both in the United Kingdom and abroad. The BBC World Service radio network is broadcast in 33 languages globally. Domestically the BBC also operates ten national networks and over 40 local radio stations including services in Welsh, Gaelic Gàidheal in Scotland and Irish in Northern Ireland.
