James VI of Scotland and I of England
-King James VI of Scotland was born on June 19,1567 at Edinburgh Castle.
-His parents were Mary Queen of Scots and his second husband Lord Darnley.
-He assumed the Scottish throne in 1583, after the abdication of his mother, and after the death of Elizabeth I assumed the English throne in 1603 and was named James I.
-James succeed most of his aims in Scotland but faced great difficulties in England, including the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 and repeated conflicts with the English Parliament.
-Also, with its anti-Catholic reaction, gave James a temporary popularity which soon was gone. His foreing policy , aimed primarly at achieving closer relations with Spain, was also disliked.
-He was succeeded by his son Charles, after his death in 1625, who became king of England and Scotland.
